Impact by Design.
The real Mexico is found just beyond the sun and sand. Sendero (Spanish for path) offers curated, impact-driven guest expeditions that connect you directly with Zihuatanejo’s coastal conservationists, artisans, and community leaders.
By pairing you with local and academic experts who guide you through hands-on participation, Sendero takes you far deeper than basic sightseeing. Most importantly, your travel becomes a powerful force for good. Join Sendero and you automatically fund native habitat restoration, support women-led cooperatives, or preserve heritage traditions.

EVENTS
Although early in the process Sendero Expedition has been conducting outreach with local stakeholders since Spring of 2026. We are seeking to explore interest in bringing this ancient game alive by funding entry into an emerging league.
Would you be interested in watching a ball on fire being kicked and moved with the body by teams who seek to dunk it into a basketball hoop type of stone object that is placed upright so the ball goes through the hole in the middle.
Sign-up to Be in The Know
Stay informed as Sendero Expeditions moves forward in trying to bring back a culturally significant sport that was much more than entertainment to the original peoples of this land, the Cuitlatec.
History Moment
The Cuitlatec (also spelled Cuitlateco or Cuitlateca) were an indigenous people of Mexico who lived in the Rio Balsas and Costa Grande regions of Guerrero. Their historical territory was named Cuitlatecapan by the Aztecs.Today, the Cuitlatec are considered completely extinct as both a distinct ethnic group and a linguistic community.

Some seek to go deeper while travelling. In our work with conservation organizations and communities we become aware of local needs. We compile volunteer opportunities and act as a hub to connect travellers with local organizations.
Watch Sendero Expeditions’ page on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date on these opportunities and more.
Here are the volunteer opportunities we are currently working on with communities and organizations.
